All my couples know one thing about me: I make sure they’re as much of a match for me as I might be for them before they hire me as their wedding photographer. Why? Because when we’re together on their wedding day, emotions are running high and wedding photographers tend to be the only people besides the wedding party with the couple from start to finish. We need to have a solid relationship built on trust to keep the day moving despite any potential setbacks. I want my couples to know they’re in good hands. They shouldn’t have to worry past the day they book me about the job I’m doing.
Derek + Cortney are the perfect example of why I maintain this philosophy. Because sometimes something on MY end proves to be the setback. We got a late start to designing and ordering Derek + Cortney’s engagement photo guestbook since they’re session was so close to the wedding. So all it took was a simple post office lag and the guestbook was MIA on the wedding day. While I was freaking out about it not arriving in time, Derek + Cortney were too busy being happy to care! We got a replacement last minute but they never even flinched about the situation. I shouldn’t have been so surprised by this. If you saw their engagement photos, you probably sensed how awesome these two are. I mean Cortney? Beautiful AND the sweetest personality? Derek is a very lucky man to be able to now call Cortney his wife. And Derek? Never without a smile and always spreading that infectious spirit to everyone around him.
Derek + Cortney,
First off, wine + a wedding? You two speak “LeiLani” fluently! But all jokes aside, I cannot believe how smooth sailing your wedding was despite my gaffe. Everything was absolutely gorgeous. From the classic car to the sweet first look to the super fun birdseed toss exit, it was a perfect reflection of the head over heels in love couple I’ve come to know. Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of your special day!
“And I have never been so sure of anything before,
Like I am in this moment here with you
Now for better or for worse are so much more than only words
And I pray everyday will be the proof
That I mean what I say when I say ‘I do’”

From the bride: “The entrance table in the lobby of the church is old chipped up pieces of the altar from the old sanctuary. The old tool box that is holding programs on that table was used by my great grandmother in the early 1900’s. The old barrel outside of reception was also used in the 1800’s by their family, and Derek drug it out and fixed it for me! It’ll have framed wedding pictures of our family on top of it in the entrance of the reception. Our candy buffet is nearly all homemade with family recipes! The windows on the candy table are restored from the 1800’s by Derek Himself out of their barn.“
