Back in February, during the annual WPPI convention, I had the extreme pleasure of tagging along with Vazquez and a busload of other photographers on a special night shoot to a top secret location.
Oh yeah. We went there. The world-famous Graceland Wedding Chapel to be exact. This place has seen the likes of Jon Bon Jovi, Richard Simmons, Jay Leno, and Billy Ray Cyrus. And now, it hosts Rob and Sandy, actual wedding clients of Vazquez. What’s the word to describe Rob and Sandy?
Oh, that’s right, WINNING.
Rob and Sandy flew out from NY to participate in the wildest, tackiest, most-Hangover-esque faux Vegas wedding you’ve ever seen. Even the King of Rock n Roll took some time out of busy schedule (7500+ weddings annually!) to “marry” the couple.
The bride was absolutely stunning in her platform pumps, leopard-print mini dress, and bouquet of PBR (ah, brings back college days). And the groom looked very Jeff Daniels in Dumb and Dumber in his clearly-borrowed-from-his-prom-king-dad powder blue tuxedo and bow tie.
But the fairy tale wedding almost didn’t happen when Elvis tried to put a move on the bride…or the bride on Elvis…
Once everyone kissed and made up (quite literally), the ceremony began. Elvis “married” the two with vows that included “I’ll never leave you at the Heartbreak Hotel“, “I’ll never step on your Blue Suede Shoes“, and of course, “I promise I’ll always be your hunk-a-hunk of Burning Love“.
When it was time for the kiss, the couple brought the honeymoon to us!
After the “wedding”, we headed outside for a quick photo shoot with the bride and groom. Anthony used the opportunity to teach us all about video lights while Rob and Sandy worked.it.OUT.
We all hopped back on the bus for a quick ride to the opposite end of the strip for our last stop: the fabulous Vegas sign! On the way, Anthony answered questions and passed out prizes. I won his Click Picks Volume 1 pack! Yay me!
The lighting tips and tricks continued at the Vegas sign.
We eventually had to call it a night though and all gave our huge thank you’s to everyone involved in such an awesome shoot.
On the way back to the bus, I snapped this “technically-incorrect” yet still sweet photo of the executive portion of McCarran airport. One day a famous client of mine will fly me into Vegas on a private jet to photograph their wedding. One day.
And yes, I’ll be playing “Like a G6” on the iPod.
Thanks so much Anthony, Click Nation, Elvis, and of course our lovely bride and groom, Rob and Sandy! Best.Vegas.Night.EVAH.
